Bahja Mall
IN DEVELOPMENT
Bahja Mall is a coming-of-age story about a group of teenagers who spend their days being unproductive members of society in a run-down mall until they realize that there may be more to life than just being a mall rat when a famous televised talent show takes over their favorite hangout.
The film takes inspiration from the 90s slacker comedies of Richard Linklater and Kevin Smith but recontextualizes it in a setting familiar to anyone who’s lived in the gulf, the mall. Our cast of characters will be relatable to anyone who came of age in the 2000s and the setting plays on the rose-tinted nostalgia we have for the free-wheeling days of being a kid killing time at the mall with your friends. Bahja Mall is ultimately a story about those days coming to an end, and the inevitability of growing up.
Bahja Mall also received a 2022 development grant from Red Sea Film Festival.
